Explanation
A habitat is the place where an animal or plant lives. Main habitats: rain forest, grassland, desert, tundra (cold, with no trees) and ocean. Examples: monkeys live in the rain forest, camels live in the desert, zebras live in the grassland, fish live in the ocean. Sentence pattern: “… live(s) in the …”.
Worked examples
Camels live in the desert. It is hot and dry.
Arctic foxes live in the tundra. It is very cold there.
Class activity
“Animal and home”: mix animal pictures and habitat pictures and match the pairs. Say each pair in a sentence: “Zebras live in the grassland.”
