Explanation
Value: being resourceful means using what you have to solve a problem. To ask whether a place is open: “Is the library open?” — “Yes, it is.” or “No, it isn’t. It’s closed.” Say it! — the long “oh” sound, spelled oa or ow: goat, boat, coat, snow, yellow. (Note: ow is sometimes read differently, as in cow.)
Worked examples
“A rainy day”. Sardor is walking home. It is raining and he has no umbrella. He puts a big paper bag on his head and gets home dry. His sister says “Smart idea!” Sardor laughs: “I’m resourceful!”
— Is the library open? — No, it isn’t. It’s closed.
Class activity
“Is it open?”: children make “Open / Closed” cards for a shop, library and park. A partner asks “Is the park open?” and answers from the card.
