Explanation

Value: trying something new can feel scary, but we learn. Encouraging others: “You can do it!” “Try again!” “Don’t give up!” “Well done!” Say it! — the sound sh: pull the tongue back and say “sh-sh-sh”: shark, fish, ship, shell, shoe.

Worked examples
“First step”. Malika does not know how to play volleyball. She is scared: she cannot hit the ball. Her friend Hasan says “You can do it! Try again!” Malika tries three times. The fourth time the ball goes over the net. “Well done!” says Hasan. Malika is happy.
A shy shark and a fish swim near the ship.
Class activity

“Cheer words”: pairs try something new (an exercise, a drawing). The partner says “You can do it!” or “Try again!” At the end: “Well done!”
