Explanation

Words for the yard: tree, leaf, caterpillar, rabbit, butterfly, flower, grass, turtle, guinea pig, snail. Plurals: leaf — leaves (f changes to ves), butterfly — butterflies (y changes to ies), snail — snails, flower — flowers. For one thing we say “a”: a snail, a rabbit.

Worked examples
A caterpillar is on the leaf. A butterfly is on the flower.
There are two leaves and three butterflies in the picture.
Class activity

“Yard picture”: the teacher says a word (butterfly), children hold up the picture card and repeat it. Then a child gives commands such as “Show me the snail!”
