Explanation

Possessive words show who owns something: my, your, his (a boy’s), her (a girl’s), our, their. They go before the noun: my pet, his dog, her cat, our garden, their rabbits. Sentences: “His pet is big.” “Our pet is orange.” With plurals we use “are”: “Our pets are small.”

Worked examples
Her turtle is slow. His rabbit is white.
Our snail is small. Their guinea pigs are brown.
Class activity

“His or her?”: children put their things (pencil, notebook) on a desk. The teacher holds one up: “Is it his pencil or her pencil?” The class says “It’s her pencil.” or “It’s his notebook.”
