Explanation
Groups of instruments: string (guitar, violin, dutar), wind (recorder, flute, nay), percussion (drum, doira). Strings vibrate, in wind instruments air goes through a tube, and percussion instruments are hit. Sentences: “A guitar is a string instrument.” “A doira is a percussion instrument.”
Worked examples
The recorder is a wind instrument. You blow into it.
The doira is a percussion instrument. You hit it with your hands.
Class activity
“Guess the sound”: the teacher plays (or shows) an instrument; children say “It’s a string / wind / percussion instrument.” Then sort cards into three groups.
