Explanation

A pen pal is a friend in another place who writes to you by letter or email. In the book children read an email that a child wrote about himself. We do the same: look at the picture and title first, read the text twice, then answer the questions. An email often starts with “Hi, …” and ends with “Bye!”

Worked examples
“My pen pal”. Hi! My name’s Dilnoza. I’m nine years old and I live in Samarkand. I have a brother and a small cat. My birthday is in May. I like drawing and swimming. Do you have an email pen pal? Please write to me! Bye!
Hi, Dilnoza! My name’s Tom. I’m ten. Bye!
Class activity

“Write back”: children write a reply to Dilnoza in three short sentences (name, age, one thing they like) and swap with a partner.

2
When is Dilnoza’s birthday?
