World literature (B)
In poem analysis identify the theme (what it is about), the mood, the rhyme, the images and the devices. A simile compares with like or as: life is like a river. A metaphor equates directly: life is a river. Here is a short poem of our own as practice: “Life is a road with many bends, / some turns are slow, some end in friends.” The theme is life’s journey; the rhyme is bends / friends. Literature in education enriches vocabulary, develops critical thinking, helps us understand other cultures and increases empathy. Final review: tenses, modal verbs, prepositions, reported speech, sentence types and adjectives studied in this course – use all of them in your essays.
Class “poetry hour”: each group writes a four-line poem and marks the rhymes.
