Explanation

Types of bullying: verbal (insults, nicknames), social (leaving someone out), physical and online (cyberbullying). Schools adopt rules against it, but witnesses play a key role: they can support the victim and tell an adult. Structure of an opinion essay: introduction (state the problem), two or three main points each with a reason or example, conclusion. Useful phrases: In my opinion..., I strongly believe that..., One reason is..., For example..., As a result... To describe a person we mention appearance, character and habits: She is so generous that she shares everything. Keep a strong but respectful tone and do not insult anyone.

Worked examples
In my opinion, cyberbullying is serious because messages can spread so quickly that the victim cannot escape. For example, a cruel comment can be seen by hundreds of people.
A good witness is brave enough to speak up. He is such a supportive classmate that everybody trusts him.
Class activity

“Supportive sentences”: students write five kind sentences to say to someone who is being bullied.
