How smart are you? (B)
Textbook: pp. 134–137
GoalReading and writing about learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic); telling how you learned a new skill.
New words
memory · xotiradiagram · diagrammapractice · amaliyotstrategy · strategiya
Explanation
Everyone learns best in a different way, but most people mix styles. Researchers say that some “style” theories are not fully proved, so try different strategies instead of sticking to one. Effective strategies: explain what you learned to others, repeat, test yourself, make a mind map. When you write about how you learned a new skill use the past tense and sequence words: At first I..., after that I..., finally I... Use an infinitive for purpose and a gerund for the activity: I started learning English to watch films without subtitles. Useful questions: How did you learn...? What helped you most?
Worked examples
At first I watched short videos about chess. After that I played with my cousin and finally I joined a school club.
To remember new words, I draw small pictures. Testing myself every weekend helps me a lot.
Class activity
“Skill story”: students tell in one minute how they learned a new skill.
Practice
1

I use a dictionary to check the meaning of new words.
2
Which strategy works for any learner: testing yourself or giving up?
testing yourself
3
Complete with a gerund: I started ___ (learn) coding last year.
learning
4
Why is it wise to try different strategies?
Because no single method works best for everybody, and mixing methods helps memory.
