Объяснение

The fable «Стрекоза и Муравей» (1808) is also by Krylov; it is a free adaptation of a fable by the French fabulist La Fontaine. The story: the Dragonfly sang and played all summer and prepared nothing. When winter came she had neither food nor shelter. She went to the Ant and asked for help. The Ant answered coldly: “What did you do in summer?” The Dragonfly said, “I sang.” The Ant replied with irony, “Then dance now!” The fable teaches us to prepare for winter in summer and to be hardworking. Some readers think the Ant is stingy, others that he is thrifty — this is worth discussing. Here too the characters stand for people.

(All summer the Dragonfly sang and thought nothing of supplies. When winter came she was cold and hungry. She ran to the Ant and asked for bread and a warm corner. The Ant asked what she had done in summer. The Dragonfly said she sang and danced. The Ant said with a smirk: “Now dance!”)
Comparison: «Стрекоза» is carefree and light-minded; «Муравей» is hardworking and calculating. A proverb: «Готовь сани летом, а телегу зимой.» (Prepare your sleigh in summer and your cart in winter.)
Работа в классе

“Debate”. The class splits in two: one group defends the Dragonfly, the other the Ant. They state opinions in the form «Я думаю, что …, потому что …». The teacher asks “Which one are we?”
