Organising crafts exhibitions and contests
Crafts exhibitions and contests are organised to save national crafts from disappearing, raise the quality of items and awaken young people’s interest in a craft. A contest can be held inside one school or by several schools together. The textbook’s example, the “Independent Homeland Craftsmen” contest, has four stages: participants are registered, their knowledge of the craft is tested, the creative work they prepared in advance is reviewed, and a practical task in their chosen branch is done on the spot. The results are judged by a jury of experienced teachers set up by the education department. The jury looks at fit to the topic, order at the workplace, following the technological map, newness of the design and observance of safety rules. The top three places receive certificates and gifts.
Mini-contest plan: each group makes a table of the 4 stages, the jury and 5 judging criteria of a craft contest at their own school. Planning only, no practical work.
