Explanation
12 August is International Youth Day (IYD). The United Nations (UN) set it up, and the first IYD took place in 2000. The day draws attention to the problems and chances of young people. The Wh-question order is: question word + auxiliary (do/does/did) + subject + main verb: When does the club meet? When Who is the subject, we do not need do/does: Who helps the children? Question words: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How many, How old. To talk about a plan we can use the Present Continuous: We are planning a book collection.
Worked examples
Our school club is planning a clean-up day in the park on 12 August. Activity: collect rubbish and plant trees. Who helps: pupils, parents and two teachers. What we need: gloves, bags, young trees. Safety: an adult handles all tools and we do not touch broken glass.
— Why do volunteers matter? — They give their time to help people. — How many pupils are joining? — About thirty. — Who is leading the group? — Our English teacher.
Class activity
“Interview”: each pupil asks a classmate five Wh-questions, such as Who is your role model? and writes down the answers.
