Forms of government and structure
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw a two-column table in your notebook and place five countries by form of government (monarchy/republic).
For example: Japan, Denmark – monarchy; Germany, Brazil, Uzbekistan – republic.
2
Compare “absolute” and “limited” monarchy in two sentences.
In an absolute monarchy the monarch’s power is not limited; in a limited monarchy a constitution and parliament set limits.
3
Write three differences between a unitary and a federal state.
Unitary: a single constitution/laws; federation: members’ own bodies; a unitary state has a single legislative system, a federation often a two-chamber parliament.
4
Write what you know about the status of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
It is a sovereign republic within Uzbekistan; it has its own constitution which must not contradict Uzbekistan’s Constitution.
5
Why do states choose different forms of structure? Write your opinion.
Factors such as history, size of territory, ethnic composition and the people’s will may influence it; the answer should be reasoned.
