Explanation

Rauf Parfi (Tursunali Parfiyev) was born on 27 September 1943 in the village of Sho‘ralisoy, Yangiyo‘l district, Tashkent region; after secondary school he studied at the philology faculty of Tashkent State University and worked in major publishing houses, newspapers and magazines. His first poetry collection, “Karvon yo‘li,” appeared in 1968; later books such as “Aks-sado,” “Tasvir,” “Xotirot,” “Ko‘zlar,” “Qaytish,” “Sabr daraxti,” “Sukunat,” “Tavba,” “So‘nggi vido” and “Sakina” were published. In his work human freedom, the freedom of the homeland, the memory of Turkestan and love are leading themes, and he expresses joy and pain through elements of nature. As a translator he rendered into Uzbek Byron’s “Manfred” and Nazim Hikmet’s “Inson manzaralari”; in 1999 he received the title “People’s Poet of Uzbekistan” and he died in Tashkent in 2005.
