About the tragedy “Abulfayzxon”
“Abulfayzxon” was published in 1924; its events take place in the 18th century when the Ashtarkhanid dynasty ended in Bukhara and the Manghit emirs came, so the author used fictional and symbolic characters together with real historical figures. According to the textbook, the work is built on the idea that “kingship is a tree watered with blood”: the dream of the throne can make a person blind and a heart helpless. According to history, Abulfayzxon took the throne at the cost of his brother’s life and was finally defeated because of the hypocrites around him and his own short-sightedness; the work’s main idea is that a system built on oppression is doomed to crisis. Hakimbiy forms a secret link with the Iranian shah Nadir Shah and receives a promise to raise his son Rahimbiy to the throne, while the blind Ibrohimbiy, who stands on the side of justice, proposes convening a qurultoy and says Rahimbiy’s throne will not pass to his children. One of the strongest symbols is Xayol (the Vision), and the chess game is a symbol of the power struggle in the work.
