Explanation

In the ode “Inson” (1973) the poet exalts man as ruler of the cosmos and of the earth, as caravan leader and guardian, yet also shows his contradictory nature: man can be the source of both good and spite, of both justice and enmity. The repetition of “you yourself are man” in every stanza gives a tone of direct address; there is a warning about the power of science that has found a way to the planets and the danger that comes with it. At the end of the ode it says that man must make his world a garden, awaken and remain a true human being. The poem “Yaxshidir achchiq haqiqat” stresses that bitter truth is better than a sweet lie, and the poet urges telling the truth even if a sword comes upon his head; the poem is built on the idea of courage and honesty.

Worked examples
Example: The image in “Inson” of one who found a way to the planets yet is amazed at the consequence shows two faces of science: progress and danger.
Example: The pair “bitter truth – sweet lie” is a contrast that strengthens the poem’s main idea.
Class activity
