Explanation
Abdulhamid Cho‘lpon (1898–1938) was born in Andijan in 1898, was arrested in 1937 and became a victim of repression in 1938; he was one of the writers who began a new stage in Uzbek poetry and prose; his pen-name means “Venus,” i.e. the morning star. The textbook introduces his work through the views of three scholars. Ozod Sharafiddinov stresses that in the novel “Kecha va kunduz” the author does not state social reflections bluntly but reveals them through living people, their fates and characters. Academician Naim Karimov points to Cho‘lpon’s contribution to the development of the Uzbek literary language, his influence in giving the ideas of homeland, nation and independence deeper meaning among the people, and his civic courage. The literary scholar Dilmurod Quronov notes that he widened the possibilities of prose and tried out various poetic techniques.
