Job interview (B)
Textbook: pp. 38–41
GoalConducting an interview and writing a report; advice with should; interviewing classmates.
New words
to interview · so‘rab chiqmoqto respond · javob bermoqreport · hisobotgoal · maqsad
Explanation
An interview report has three parts: who you spoke to, what you asked, and what you concluded. In a report it is natural to tell the story in the past tense rather than quote word for word: I interviewed Dilnoza. She said she wanted to be a journalist. After the talk give recommendations with should: She should practise speaking in front of a mirror. There are closed questions (Do you like teamwork? – yes/no) and open questions (What do you enjoy about teamwork?). Open questions give more information. During the interview listen carefully, make short notes and ask “Could you explain that?” to clarify.
Worked examples
Closed question: Do you play an instrument? Open question: Why did you choose that instrument?
I interviewed my neighbour, a nurse. She told me that she worked night shifts twice a week. She should rest more, I think.
Class activity
Pairs interview each other for five minutes and then read a four-sentence report about their partner.
