Stylistics of vocatives
Ответы — для родителей и учителей.
1
Make three sentences with official, affectionate and solemn vocatives.
For example: «Hurmatli direktor, so‘rovimizni ko‘rib chiqing.» (“Dear director, please consider our request.”) «Onajon, siz bilan faxrlanaman.» (“Dear mother, I am proud of you.”) «Ey yurt, farzandlaring seni sevadi.» (“O land, your children love you.”)
2
Write three sentences using one vocative at the beginning, in the middle and at the end, and place the commas.
Aziza, kitobni ber. Kitobni, Aziza, ber. Kitobni ber, Aziza. (“Aziza, give me the book.”)
3
Write the beginning of a short official letter (to whom, with a vocative).
«Hurmatli Karim Ahmadovich! Sizdan maktabimiz ko‘rgazmasiga tashrif buyurishingizni iltimos qilamiz...» (“Dear Karim Ahmadovich! We ask you to visit our school’s exhibition...”)
4
Why are intonation and interjection important in a vocative? Write 2–3 sentences.
They give the force of the call and the tone of attitude; «hoy» can be rough, «ey» elevated, «aziz» affectionate.
