Textbook: p. 29
GoalThe education system in England and Wales; adding extra information with which (after a comma).

Explanation
In England and Wales children usually start primary school at five. Primary education has two stages: infant school (ages 5–7) and junior school (ages 7–11). After 11 most children go to a comprehensive school, which anyone can attend without an entrance exam. A few areas still have grammar schools, which accept pupils who pass a selection test. In Britain a public school is an old type of private school where parents pay; many are boarding schools where pupils live at school. We add extra information with a comma + which: Primary schools are small, which makes them friendly. This structure is more common in formal and written English.
Worked examples
Comprehensive schools are large, which means they can offer many subjects. – Many private schools are boarding schools, where pupils live during the term.
Compare: The school which is near my house is old. (defining, no comma) – The school, which is near my house, is old. (extra information, commas)

“The table”: groups find the age for each type of school, fill in a table and add one which-sentence for each.
