Explanation

An NGO is an organization that is independent of the government and usually not run for profit; it often works with volunteers. For definitions we use who / which / that: An NGO is an organization which works for people’s welfare and is not part of the government. A volunteer is a person who works without being paid. The Red Cross was founded in 1863 to help the wounded on battlefields; in many Muslim countries it is called the Red Crescent. They work on natural disasters, health, youth programmes and international help. The WWF protects nature and animals, and OXFAM helps people in disasters. Asking about duration: How long does it take you to cycle to the park? – It takes me fifteen minutes to cycle there. Pattern: It takes + (person) + time + to + infinitive.

Worked examples
Volunteers collected clothes and food for families after a flood. It took them three hours to load the van. A natural disaster is an event like a flood or an earthquake.
It takes me ten minutes to walk to school. It takes my sister half an hour to do her maths homework. How long does it take your dad to drive to work?
