GoalApplying for a job and preparing for an interview: the application form, giving advice (should / shouldn’t, imperatives) and if + present.
New words
application form · ariza blankasiinterview · suhbat (intervyu)employer · ish beruvchirelaxed · xotirjam
Explanation
To apply for a job we first fill in an application form: First name, Surname, Date of birth, Address, Phone number, Interests. To give advice about clothes and behaviour at an interview we use imperatives and should: Arrive ten minutes early. Don’t wear a T-shirt with slogans. You should sit up straight and keep eye contact. You shouldn’t interrupt the interviewer. For instructions we often use if + present + imperative: If you don’t know an answer, say so honestly. If the interviewer asks about your plans, give a short, clear reply. Such sentences give general rules or advice. At the end, it is polite to say Thank you for your time.
Worked examples
Before the interview you should read about the company. Don’t be late, and switch off your phone. If you feel nervous, breathe slowly.
Sample form. First name: Sabina. Surname: Ortiqova. Date of birth: 12 June 2010. Interests: swimming, drawing. When can you start? From September.
