Explanation

Newspapers and magazines come out regularly: daily (every day), weekly (once a week), monthly (once a month), quarterly (four times a year). Each copy that comes out is an issue. A paper has news, sport, adverts and letters pages; we call the title of an article its headline. To ask about habits use How often ...?: How often do you read a magazine? – Once a week. Twice a month. Never. Open questions work well in an interview: Which media do you use most? Why? Then collect the answers and write a report: Most pupils read the news on their phones.

Worked examples
Our class survey: 30 pupils answered. 18 read the news on their phones, 7 watch TV news, 3 listen to the radio and 2 read a printed newspaper. Most pupils check the news every day. Only two pupils never read the news.
Interview questions: 1) How do you find out the news? 2) How often do you read it? 3) Which topic do you like best? 4) Do you read printed or online news? 5) Why?
Class activity

“Class survey”: each pupil writes five questions, the class chooses the best ten, then answers go into a table.
