Explanation
A book review is a short opinion about a book. Plan: 1) Introduction – title, author, genre, when it came out; 2) Main part – what it is about, who the main characters are, how it starts and what happens (do not give away the ending!); 3) Conclusion – did you like it, why, and who would you recommend it to. Useful phrases: The book is about ... . The main character is ... . I enjoyed it because ... . I would recommend it to ... . Write the review, read it in your group, stick it on the wall and choose the most interesting book.
Worked examples
“Around the World in Eighty Days” is an adventure novel by Jules Verne, first published in 1872. It is about Phileas Fogg, who makes a bet that he can travel round the world in eighty days. I enjoyed it because the journey is exciting and full of surprises. I would recommend it to readers who love adventure.
Planning questions: What is the title? Who is the author? What genre is it? Who is the hero? What do you like about it? Would you recommend it?
