Explanation
The past active participle («действительное причастие прошедшего времени») describes a thing by what it did in the past: «прочитавший книгу, выигравший олимпиаду». It is built from the past-tense stem: after a vowel stem add «-вш-» + «ий» («прочитать — прочитавший, купить — купивший»); after a consonant stem add «-ш-» + «ий» («нести — нёсший, привести — приведший»). It is formed from both aspects: «писавший» (imperfective), «написавший» (perfective). The participle agrees with its noun in gender, number and case: «ученик, выполнивший задание», «ученика, выполнившего задание», «ученикам, выполнившим задание». A phrase after the noun is set off by commas.
