Explanation
Habibullo Qodiriy, born in Tashkent in 1919, was a poet and writer, the son of Abdulla Qodiriy, the founder of the Uzbek novel. He wrote a memoir book “Otam haqida” (About my father). The textbook’s “Tarbiya” (Upbringing) is also in the spirit of a memory of his father and speaks about a way of bringing up children. We do not retell it; we read our own text. A memoir is a work in which the author writes what he lived through. A synonym of tarbiya is odob (good manners) or o‘rgatish (teaching). A good educator sometimes does not shout but prompts thought by a question or a task.
Worked examples
Text “Grandfather’s question”. My grandfather was planting a plane-tree sapling in the yard. I said: “Why do you work so slowly?” Grandfather stood silent and said: “This tree will not be fully grown even when you are grown, yet we plant it. Think about the reason.” I thought until evening. The next day I said: “For the people of the future.” Grandfather smiled and stroked my head.
Method: making the child think through a question rather than giving a ready answer. Idea: work is not only for ourselves.
