Explanation
The textbook has the story “Sayroqi qushcha” (The singing little bird) by Zamira Ibrohimova, about kindness and care towards animals. We do not retell it; we read our own text. A story (hikoya) is a short prose work rich in events. It has characters, and events happen at a certain place and time. It has a beginning, a high point (climax) and a resolution. We find the idea of a story from the resolution and from what the characters do.
Worked examples
“A new guest”. Today a little kitten came to our home. It crept under the sofa and trembled non-stop. My sister said: “Don’t grab it, let it get used to us first.” We put out water and special cat food, spread a soft blanket and sat quietly. After an hour the kitten came out carefully and sniffed the food. In the evening it rubbed against my leg and began to mew. I understood that patience and kindness win an animal’s trust.
Structure: beginning – the kitten came; climax – it hid in fear; resolution – trust appeared. In a family with a new pet an adult helps, and hands must be washed.
