The textbook text “Dunyo mo‘jizalari” (Wonders of the world) comes from the “Yosh bilimdon” encyclopedia and has information on the Egyptian pyramids, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal. We do not copy it; we read our own short text. The seven wonders of the ancient world: the Pyramids of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus, the Temple of Artemis, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Of them only the Pyramids of Giza have survived to us. In an informational text numbers (years, heights) show important facts; we mark them with a pencil while reading.
Worked examples
Text “The oldest wonder”. The Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt was built about 4500 years ago for the pharaoh Khufu. Originally it was about 147 metres high; today it is a little lower. The pyramid was assembled from millions of stone blocks. Of the seven ancient wonders only this structure has come down to us. The other wonders were lost to earthquakes, fires or time. Today tourists from all over the world come to see the pyramid.
Numbers: 4500 years, 147 metres, seven wonders, one survives.
