Explanation
A rivoyat is a short narrative about a historical person or event passed on from mouth to mouth. The textbook’s “Yerga chizilgan rasm” (A picture drawn on the ground) is a legend about Kamoliddin Behzod. Behzod was a great painter who lived and worked in Herat; in Europe he is also called the “Raphael of the East”. We do not retell the legend; we read our own text. A legend and real history are not the same: a legend shows people’s respect for a teacher. In the text we find how talent and work are linked.
Worked examples
Text “The little painter”. Every day Sevara drew the flowers of the garden in her notebook. Her pictures were not beautiful at first, but she did not stop. The teacher in the art club saw her work and said: “You have both talent and patience.” At the end of the year Sevara took first place at the school exhibition. The teacher said to her: “Whatever your eye sees, your hand will draw.”
Conclusion: talent matures with work.
