Research project
Research is work done to find out something unknown. The steps: 1) choose a topic and ask a question; 2) the aim: what do we want to know; 3) tasks: what will we do; 4) the object of research (what we observe); 5) a hypothesis, a guess at the answer; 6) collect information from books, adults or websites; 7) do the experiment and record results; 8) conclusion: was the hypothesis right?; 9) present the result to the class. Sample topics: “In which conditions do bean seeds sprout fastest?”, “Which substances dissolve in water?”, “At what time of day is a shadow longest?”. Stay safe: work with hot water, sharp objects and chemicals only with an adult. If the result does not match your hypothesis, that is fine: you learned something new.
In a group choose one research topic, write the aim, tasks and hypothesis and plan a one-week experiment. Present the results as a poster or slides.
