Explanation
Electricity does not appear by itself: it is made at power stations, where coal, gas or oil is burned, which pollutes the air. Our parents pay for electricity. Saving rules: switch off the light when leaving a room and switch off appliances we do not need. Fresh water is not very plentiful on Earth, so we save water too: close the tap when not needed and do not let it drip.
Worked examples
Closing the tap while brushing teeth saves several litres of water.
No electricity: the iron does not work, so clothes stay creased.
Class activity
Experiment “The dripping tap”: place a glass under a dripping tap (or a pot with a tiny hole) and measure how much water collects in 10 minutes. Estimate how much would be lost in a day. Then invent “My own saving rule” and follow it at home for a week. Safety: do not work with water near electric sockets.
