Explanation

A person has five loyal helpers: eye (sight), ear (hearing), nose (smell), tongue (taste) and skin (touch). They collect information about the world and send it to the brain. The brain is the control centre of the body: it processes information, remembers it and decides what to do. Animals have sense organs too.

Worked examples
If we touch a hot kettle, the skin tells the brain and we pull our hand away at once.
Sweet, tasty, soft: we learn these features through the tongue and skin.
Class activity

“Which organ?” game: the teacher says a feature (red, loud, pleasant smell, cold, sour) and children point to the right organ: eye, ear, nose, tongue or hand. At the end draw a picture called “Five helpers”.

Practice
1
How many sense organs are there and which ones?
2
Which organ do we use to feel cold or hot?
3
Which organ is the control centre of the body?
