Explanation

Every person needs a calm, dry, warm and bright home. A home has rooms such as a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. A window lets in light and fresh air and, when closed, keeps out cold and wind. Water is taken from a river or from underground, cleaned at a treatment plant and brought to the home through pipes. Used water goes through sewer pipes to a treatment plant, is cleaned and returned to nature.

Worked examples
River water → treatment plant → water pipe → tap at home.
Through an open window fresh air comes into the room.
Class activity

Experiment “How much water runs from a tap?”: open a tap halfway and collect water in a large container for 10 seconds. Measure it in a measuring jug and multiply by 6: that is how much runs in one minute. Closing the tap while brushing teeth saves that much. Safety: place the container carefully and wipe up spills at once.
