Living and non-living nature

Textbook: Part 1, pp. 62–64
GoalKnow what nature is and tell living from non-living nature by their features.
New words
nature · tabiatliving · jonlinon-living · jonsizto breathe · nafas olmoq
Explanation

Everything not made by human hands is nature: earth, sky, the Sun, air, water, mountains, plants, animals and people themselves. Nature is living and non-living. Living nature is born, grows, breathes, feeds, reproduces and eventually dies. This includes people, plants and animals. Non-living nature includes stones, soil, water, clouds and the Sun: they do not grow, feed or breathe.

Worked examples
A fish swims in a river: the fish is living nature, the river water is non-living.
A car moves, but it is not nature because people made it.
Class activity

Experiment “The seed wakes up”: put 3 bean seeds on damp cotton wool in a clear container and keep it somewhere warm. Keep the cotton damp. Observe and draw it each day: does the seed grow? Put a pebble beside it for comparison: does it grow? Then play a “Living or non-living?” card game.

Practice
1

2
Which are non-living: stone, bee, cloud, tree?
3
Why is a car not part of nature?
