Explanation
All people on Earth have things in common, but every person is one of a kind. We learn about the world with five sense organs: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. We must look after them and follow hygiene and safety rules. We communicate with others through words, gestures and facial expressions.
Worked examples
Eye: sight; ear: hearing; nose: smell; tongue: taste; skin: touch.
Washing hands with soap is a hygiene rule.
Class activity
Mini-project “My sense organs” booklet: fold an A4 sheet in three and on each page draw one sense organ and write its job and one rule for looking after it. At the end swap booklets and read each other’s.
Practice
1
Why do we need the sense organs?
they let us learn about the world around us
2
Give one rule for protecting the eyes and one for the ears.
For example: read in good light; never push things into the ear
3
Why is every person unique?
nobody is exactly like anybody else
