Explanation

Things in a town: streetlight, bus stop, mailbox, traffic light. We count: “How many streetlights are there?” — “There are fourteen.” A bar chart shows numbers as bars: the taller the bar, the more there are. Numbers 11–20: eleven, twelve, … twenty.

Worked examples
There are six bus stops and two traffic lights.
The tallest bar is for streetlights: there are fourteen.
Class activity

“Class bar chart”: ask the class their favorite colors, draw the results as bars on the board and answer “How many … are there?”
