“The Ways of the World”
“Dunyoning ishlari” is a novella made of several independent stories; the image of the mother stands at the centre of every chapter. In “Alla” (Lullaby) the writer at a cemetery gate hears a Qur’an recitation and a lullaby at the same time and thinks about the lullaby as the first song, which every person understands. In “Iltijo” (Plea) he speaks at his mother’s grave, saying that the book was written by her and that he wants all mothers to read it. In “Gilam paypoq” (Carpet socks) a mother runs through a snowy night in galoshes without socks, carrying her sick son to a healer, and badly frostbites her own feet. In “Qarz” (Debt) Hakima aya spends her small pension on neighbours’ children and says she is “repaying a debt”. The writer said the work is not only about his own mother but about Uzbek women and mothers in general.
A letter to Mother: in the manner of “Iltijo” write a 4-sentence thank-you to your mother.
