Zahiriddin Muhammad Bobur
Zahiriddin Muhammad Bobur was born on 14 February 1483 in Andijan. His father Umarshaykh ruled Fergana; on his mother’s side he was a grandson of Yunuskhan, the ruler of Tashkent. After his father died, Bobur became ruler of Fergana at 12, took Samarkand at 15 but could not hold it. Later he crossed the Amu Darya and took Kabul and Ghazni; in 1526 he conquered India and founded the Baburid state, whose descendants ruled there for over three hundred years. Bobur died in Agra on 26 December 1530; later, according to his will, his remains were moved to Kabul. He wrote the “Boburnoma”; of his two devons only the “Hind” devon survives, and more than 400 of his poems – over 200 of them ruboiys – are known today, and he also wrote a scholarly book on music.
