Hamid Olimjon was born on 12 December 1909 in the city of Jizzakh and died in a car accident on 3 July 1944, so he lived only 34 years. His mother Komila aya knew many epics and tales by heart, and hearing them in childhood enriched the poet’s imagination. He studied in Samarkand at a teacher-training school and an academy. His first poems were printed in 1926 in the newspaper “Zarafshon”, and his first collection, “Ko‘klam” (Spring), came out in 1929. He wrote the verse dramas “Muqanna” and “Jinoyat”, as well as ghazals and translations. One of his best-known dostons is “Oygul bilan Baxtiyor”, written in 1937.
