Personal qualities and jobs

Textbook: pp. 19–20
GoalPersonal qualities and jobs: the suffix -ist, be good at / good with / fond of / interested in, and should for qualities.
New words
biologist · biolog (-ist)patient · sabr-toqatliresponsible · mas’uliyatlisociable · odamoxun, muloqotga ochiq
Explanation

The suffix -ist usually makes a job name from a field of study: biology – biologist, economy – economist, ecology – ecologist, hair style – stylist. Pay attention to prepositions when we describe qualities: good at paperwork (skill), good with people / animals / children (how you treat them), fond of animals (you like them), interested in fashion. We say which qualities a job needs with should: A teacher should love children and be patient. A waiter should be polite and quick. Qualities: active, sociable, energetic, responsible, polite, strong, smart.

Worked examples
An ecologist studies nature and checks pollution. A biologist should be curious and careful. I am good with animals, so I would like to be a vet.
A receptionist should be polite and organised. A firefighter must be brave and strong. I am good at problem-solving, so I might become an engineer.
Class activity

“Who is it?”: one pupil receives a job card and names three qualities; the others guess the job.
