Explanation

The UK was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. In the 19th century its wealth came from coal, iron and steel, and cloth. Now services such as finance, banking and insurance earn the most, together with high-tech industries, chemicals and tourism. Traditional centres: Sheffield – steel, Manchester – cotton and engineering, Glasgow and Newcastle – shipbuilding, Liverpool – port and industry, Grimsby – a fishing port, Birmingham – engineering, Cambridge – software and biotechnology. Oil and gas are produced in the North Sea. The USA has developed machine building, electronics, aerospace, chemicals, food processing, agriculture and the film industry. Question and answer: What industries are there in Manchester? – It has textile and engineering industries.
