Explanation
A comma + which clause comments on a whole sentence: It rained all day, which spoiled our picnic. Where adds extra information about a place: My cousin lives in Khiva, where he works as a guide. For plans we use We hope to + infinitive: We hope to start a robotics club. The Present Simple Passive: Mobile phones are not permitted in tests. Every pupil is invited to the school concert. To describe an ideal: My ideal teacher is a person who explains clearly. My ideal holiday is a time when I can read all day. -er and -or make nouns for the doer: teach – teacher, drive – driver, visit – visitor, vote – voter, elect – elector, govern – governor, senate – senator. Some words take both: adviser / advisor.
Worked examples
The bus was late, which made us miss the start. – We hope to open a reading club. – Littering is not allowed in the yard.
Make the doer: direct → director; create → creator; paint → painter; collect → collector. A person who votes is a voter.
Class activity
“My ideal ...”: everyone writes four sentences (My ideal friend is a person who ...; My ideal place is ... where ...) and a partner guesses.
