Explanation

A discipline policy is a set of rules for order and good behaviour in a school. Key words: discipline, bully, detain, exclude, expel, maintain, punish, permit, tolerate, truant. Making nouns from verbs: punish – punishment, detain – detention, exclude – exclusion, expel – expulsion, permit – permission, maintain – maintenance, tolerate – tolerance, bully – bullying, truant – truancy. In some pairs the stress falls on a different syllable in the verb and the noun: perMIT (verb), PERmit (noun). Policy texts use the passive: Cheating is not tolerated. Politeness is encouraged. Pupils are expected to work honestly. Present Simple Passive: am / is / are + past participle.

Worked examples
Late homework is checked by the form teacher. Respect for others is expected in every lesson. Rude language is not accepted in the classroom.
Verb → noun drill: detain – detention; expel – expulsion; permit – permission; tolerate – tolerance.
Class activity

Verb → noun chain: pupils take turns; one says a verb (detain), the next the noun (detention), then a new verb.

2
Make it passive: The school does not tolerate cheating.
