Explanation

The textbook has the poem “Chuchvarachi chumchuq xola” (Dumpling-making Aunt Sparrow) by Muazzam Ibrohimova. It is written in a cheerful tone with a bird-aunt as the hero. We do not quote or retell the poem; we read our own short text. A poem has rhythm and rhyme, while prose has sentences in ordinary order. Reading the text, we decide on the hero’s character: hardworking, hospitable or playful? We prove our view with a sentence from the text.

Worked examples
Text “Auntie Nafisa”. Auntie Nafisa in our neighbourhood bakes bread in the tandir every Friday. She shares the first hot loaves with the neighbours’ children. In autumn a new family moved into our street. That very day Auntie took them bread wrapped in a cloth and a bowl of yoghurt. “A new neighbour is a new relative,” she said, smiling. Now the new neighbours’ children play with us too.
Character: hospitable, generous. Proof: “she shares the first hot loaves with the neighbours’ children”.
Class activity

“Hero card”: children write the aunt’s traits and give a proof from the text for each.
