Caterpillar and butterflies (a composition)
A butterfly grows in four stages: egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly. The caterpillar eats leaves and grows fast, then hangs from a twig and turns into a pupa. A beautiful butterfly comes out of the pupa. A butterfly’s wings are the same on both sides, which is called symmetry. A composition is one whole picture or model made of several items. In a team each person makes a part and adds it to the shared theme.
You need: green and coloured paper, scissors, glue, a big card, play-dough. Steps: 1) Glue green circles in a chain: the caterpillar is ready. 2) Fold paper in half, draw one wing and cut it; when you open it you get two symmetrical wings. 3) Choose your group’s theme (forest, desert or water) and make the background on card. 4) Arrange the animals and plants and glue them down. Safety: when cutting folded paper keep the scissors still and stay seated.
