Explanation
Paper was invented in ancient China. Before that, people wrote on clay tablets, wooden boards, cloth and papyrus. Today paper becomes books, exercise books, newspapers and napkins. When working with scissors, point the tips down, and when passing them, hand over the handles first.
Worked examples
The bird’s body is a big oval, the wings are two drop shapes, the tail is three long strips.
Class activity
You need: coloured paper, scissors, glue stick, card, felt-tip pen. Steps: 1) Draw a big oval (the body) on paper and cut it out. 2) From another colour cut two drop-shaped wings and three narrow tail strips. 3) Glue everything on the card, starting with the body. 4) Add a yellow triangle beak and a black dot eye. Safety: use scissors only while seated, close them when finished and pass them handle first.
