A puppy from knitting yarn
Thread comes from different raw materials: plants (cotton, flax), animal wool, silkworm cocoons and man-made materials. Each job has its own thread: thin sewing thread for making clothes, coloured mouline for embroidery and thicker knitting yarn for knitting. Yarn spun from sheep, goat and camel wool is knitted into winter scarves, gloves and socks. Today we wind knitting yarn round a piece of card to make a fluffy puppy.
You need: knitting yarn, an 8 cm card strip, scissors, coloured paper, glue, black felt-tip pen. Steps: 1) Wind yarn about 30 times round the card strip. 2) Slide the yarn off gently and tie its middle tightly with another thread. 3) Cut the loops at both ends and trim evenly. 4) Glue paper ears, eyes and a nose to make a puppy. Safety: cut the loops under adult supervision; never wind yarn round anyone’s neck or hands.
