How can we save natural resources?
At power stations turbines spin and generate electricity, which travels through wires to homes. In a thermal power station coal, gas or fuel oil is burned to turn water into steam, and the steam spins the turbine. In a hydroelectric station river water spins the turbine. At a wind farm the wind turns the blades, and solar panels turn sunlight directly into electricity. A nuclear station uses nuclear fuel. Coal, oil and gas will one day run out, while wind, water and sunshine will not. So we must save electricity and water: switch off lights when not needed, unplug unused devices, and use more wind and solar energy. Never touch sockets or touch devices with wet hands.
“Thrifty home”: draw a house and mark ways to save electricity (LED lamp, solar panel, switching off lights, closing the fridge door). Follow at least 3 rules with your family for a week.
