The role of feedback (A)
The Present Perfect Continuous = have/has been + verb-ing. Uses: 1) a process that began in the past and continues now, often with for/since: I have been practising the speech for an hour. 2) the cause of a visible present result: My eyes are tired because I have been reading all night. The Present Perfect stresses the result (how many, finished or not): I have written three pages; the Continuous stresses the process: I have been writing all morning. Stative verbs (know, like, have = own) are rarely used in the Continuous. Question: How long have you been learning English? Feedback is other people’s opinion about our work; it is useful when it is specific, polite and shows how to improve.
“How long...?” interviews: students ask each other how long they have been doing a hobby or task (How long have you been playing chess?) and report to the class.
